Topic: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art:  The Bloch Galleries Renovation & Innovation

Steve Waterman is the Director of Design and Experience at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. He heads the design planning, implementation and maintenance of a museum-wide aesthetic throughout the 400,000 SQFT campus, situated on the 17-acre Donald J. Hall sculpture park. Steve moved from New York City to work at the museum on the Campus Enhancement/Steven Holl building project in 1999.

Highlights of Mr. Waterman’s tenure at the museum include planning and design for numerous permanent collection installations and a robust Featured Exhibition program. Utilizing a $12 M Bloch Family Foundation Gift, he recently led the museum’s effort to renovate 10,000 SQFT in the 1933 Wight and Wight building, comingling the gift of Marion and Henry Bloch’s Collection of Impressionist Art with the museum’s collection.

Erik Heitman is a Project Architect and Project Manager in BNIM’s Kansas City office. Erik played a major role in the renovations and additions to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, making significant contributions toward the design and project management of the museum’s Adelaide Cobb-Ward Sculpture Hall, Sarah & Landon Rowland American Art Galleries, American Indian Art Galleries, Susan B. and Mark A. Susz Galleries, and the new Bloch Impressionist Galleries. In addition, Erik provided design support on the Bloch Building Addition and the Ford Learning Center. Other project experience includes Westport Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Missouri and Plaza Colonnade in Kansas City, Missouri.
