Update on College Scholarship and Team Member Focus

Director’s Corner…
Nancy Petersen - photo of 16 March 2010.
Vacation time. Rain, heat, humidity! What a wonderful time of year and for many an opportunity to practice project management skills in a personal way.  I find that travel is my favorite type of project! There is scope, cost, schedule and customer [family] satisfaction. And a chance to practice advanced skills such as PERT or risk management.

Activities with the chapter are heating up also. The membership committee, under the leadership of Cindy Meyer, is hosting “Trivia Night” on August 23rd at Johnnies across from the Sprint campus. It will be an evening of fun and friendly challenges as we work in teams to compete for an iPad and other prizes. The cost for all will be $10. Go to the Home page for full information.

Committees are also heads-down making preparations for the annual two-day “Professional Development Days” event on Oct. 4th and 5th. Registration will open after the July chapter meeting. The regular registration fee is $425 for the two days which includes breakfast buffet, hot lunch buffet, beverages throughout the day and other snacks as well as great speakers on a wide range of project management topics.

I know that $425 could be a bit stiff for some students, particularly if you are not working. There will be a few “hardship” scholarships that range from partial to full registration. If you want more information about this offer, check the PDD information from the Home page or contact me for the information. I would love for our student members to obtain some of these scholarships.

Enjoy what is left of your summer and join us at chapter activities. If you have a friend or colleague who could benefit from the chapter, Invite them as a guest. Send the request to me and I will see that your friend has a free dinner meeting.

Contact me at studentmembership@kcpmichapter.org for additional information.
