PMP Certification – How PMI’s Vision for Project Management Has Changed

In the 2021 update to the PMP, PMI conducted a Global Practice Analysis market research study, which produced a few trends in the profession previously unaddressed in the PMP exam. The new certification has been developed according to the best practices and based upon input from the practitioners who establish those standards.  There are noticeable differences between the updated PMP Examination Content Outline and A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) – Sixth Edition. While there are some commonalities, it is important to note that the volunteer taskforce involved in the study described previously were not bound by the PMBOK® Guide. Raj Bhatia, a PMI KC Mid America Board member served on this taskforce.

Authorized Training Partner Program (ATPP)

On 31 December 2020, the PMI Authorized Training Partner Program replaced the Register Education Provider (R.E.P.) Program.  Project Management certification training can only be delivered by PMI-licensed ATP. Content delivered must be the approved training content developed by PMI.  The Program is designed to give students a competitive edge in today’s project economy.
